How much does a pallet weigh, and how tall is it?

Updated 2026-10-05 · PalletChecker editorial process

Pallet weight and height depend on the exact construction. An EPAL 1 Euro pallet is specified at 144 mm high and approximately 25 kg; those figures do not apply to every pallet measuring 1200 × 800 mm.

Empty pallet weight versus shipment weight

Tare is the weight of the empty pallet or packaging item. The gross shipment weight includes the goods, pallet and other packing materials. Weigh the completed unit when a carrier needs an accurate declared weight; timber moisture and condition can affect the empty pallet weight.

Measure the loaded height

Measure from the underside of the pallet to the highest part of the packed goods. For example, goods and packing extending 1000 mm above a 144 mm deck assembly produce a total height of 1144 mm when there is nothing else above or below. Check the actual unit rather than relying on this illustration.

Why these measurements matter

Doorways, racking, automated equipment and vehicle loading may all have dimensional limits. Ask for the manufacturer’s drawing where tolerances matter, and confirm whether the receiving site states limits for the pallet alone or the whole loaded unit.
