Pallets differ by material, footprint, deck and base construction, condition and intended use. The five material groups in the current Pallets Direct catalogue are wood, plastic, presswood, paper and metal.
Wooden pallets
Wooden pallets are a common starting point for warehousing and distribution. New and used options suit different budgets and presentation requirements. Construction matters: runners, perimeter bases and different deck layouts interact differently with handling equipment. A pallet that has Euro dimensions is not automatically an EPAL pallet.
Plastic pallets
Plastic designs may suit repeated return trips, washdown or operations that need consistent dimensions. Nestable designs save space when empty; runner-based designs provide different support arrangements. An ordinary plastic pallet does not automatically meet food-contact, cleanroom, ESD or racking requirements. Confirm the exact model and specification.
Presswood pallets
Pressed wood forms a moulded pallet rather than a deck assembled from separate boards. Nestable designs can reduce empty-storage space and may suit a one-way shipment. Check moisture exposure, load support and destination acceptance for the actual product.
Paper and honeycomb pallets
Paper-based pallets can reduce tare weight in suitable dry handling environments. Consider moisture, concentrated contact points and the way the load is supported. A lighter pallet does not remove the need to check its rated load and the route it will travel.
Metal pallets
Steel and aluminium designs can address a specialist load, repeated industrial use or an environment that calls for a particular construction. The choice depends on the exact alloy or steel, finish, corrosion exposure, cleaning and lifting arrangement. Metal alone does not establish a rating.
Are Euro, EPAL and CP pallets different types?
Yes. Euro-size describes a footprint. Genuine EPAL pallets follow a specified design and marking system. CP1–CP9 are separate designs associated with chemical-industry handling; they vary in size and construction. Identify the required design rather than substituting another pallet with similar dimensions.
Which pallet type is best?
There is no single best type for every job. Match the receiving site's specification, your load, handling and reuse plan. The checker helps you compare the listed options without assuming that two pallets of the same size perform the same way.
