There is no single weight limit for all pallets. Capacity belongs to an identified design, condition, load arrangement and support method. Matching the footprint alone is not enough.
A published example: the EPAL Euro pallet
EPAL lists its Euro pallet at 1200 × 800 × 144 mm, approximately 25 kg, with a safe working load of 1,500 kg. This is a specification for that product—not a promise for every pallet called “Euro-size”, an unidentified used pallet or every racking arrangement.

Which load rating applies?

An 800 kg load: the questions that matter
An 800 kg load spread across cartons is different from the same weight resting on four machinery feet. Identify the pallet model, load contact points and centre of gravity, then describe each lifting and storage step. A floor rating does not establish suitability across rack beams.
Before using an unidentified or damaged pallet
Obtain the supplier’s specification and inspect the actual unit. Do not transfer a new pallet’s published rating to a damaged or unidentified used pallet. Keep questionable units out of use until suitability is resolved.
Send the supplier a useful brief
- Model or photographs and dimensions.
- Cargo mass, footprint and support/contact points.
- Lifting equipment and entry direction.
- Rack support arrangement, if relevant.
- Condition, planned reuse and receiving-site requirements.
